The Houston Estate Paint Guide

All the colorways to achieve the look yourself.

18 March –

A room-by-room, easy-to-replicate guide to all the paint colors (and wallpapers) used throughout our latest project, The Houston Estate.

One of the most common questions we get asked as we release new projects is, “what color of paint is that?” Everyone wants to know what Shea and the design team picked to get the Studio McGee aesthetic.

For our latest project, The Houston Estate, we went ahead and answered that question through this comprehensive guide of all the paint colors used throughout the home so you can get the look in your own. Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes looks and tips in the coming weeks.

Mother of Pearl

In many of the communal spaces of the home, Segreto Finishes plaster in Mother of Pearl is used. You’ll find this same finish applied up the home’s main stairway, in the barrel arch leading to the dining room, the ceiling of the powder bath, the walls and ceiling throughout both pantries, the walls and ceiling in the kitchen breakfast nook, the walls and fireplace facade in the family room, the walls and ceiling in the primary bathroom and closet, and the walls of the upstairs hallway.

In addition, the same Segreto Finishes shade in paint rather than plaster is used in many spaces. You’ll find Mother of Pearl paint on the trimwork of the entryway, powder bathroom, breakfast nook, family room, primary bedroom, bathroom, and closet, upstairs hallway, and both pantries. It’s used throughout the entirety of the study, both guest bedrooms, bathrooms, and closets, and the mudroom. There are additional smaller rooms that use the same finish.

In the primary bedroom, Mother of Pearl was used as a base point to create different samples for Shea and the design team to work off of. The end result was a custom color that provided the warmer white they wanted in the space.

Otter

The deep green in the formal living room and dining room is Otter from Texas-based Segreto Finishes. The formal dining room is finished in a grasscloth wallpaper by Philip Jefferies.

Midnight Oil

The cabinetry in the butler’s pantry is Midnight Oil by Benjamin Moore.

Engaging White

The fireplace facade in the family room is finished in Engaging White plaster by Segreto Finishes. The rest of the room is a custom shade mixed by Segreto. Shea and the design team wanted a warm white so they started with Mother of Pearl as a base point, adding tones until the perfect warm white was achieved.

Natural Cream

The laundry room’s trimwork, ceiling, and cabinetry are Natural Cream by Benjamin Moore. The walls are papered in Morris & Co. Pure Poppy in cream/gold.

Custom

The nursery cabinetry, trim, and ceiling are painted in a custom grey shade from Segreto, and the walls are papered in Otto. Stone by These Walls.

Bateau Brown

The powder bath is painted in Bateau Brown by Sherwin Williams.

Custom

The girl’s room is painted in a custom shade of pink by Segreto Finishes. The rest of the walls are papered in Sand by Ōme Wallpaper.

At Dusk

The trim in the playroom is At Dusk by Segreto Finishes, and the rest of the walls are finished in Mother of Pearl. The wallpaper on the ceiling is Contour by Kelly Ventura.
