The McGee Home Refresh | Upstairs Nook

03 April –

Take an inside look at the sweet sitting area Shea carved out of the small landing at the top of the stairs in her Utah home. A few additional layers and small scale furniture made the space usable for her and her family.

At the top of the stairs in the McGee Home, there has always been a landing before breaking off into the bedrooms. Previously, Shea kept it simple and clean with a built-in bench and a piece of art with a calming, neutral color palette. For the refresh, Shea wanted to add layers and bring some warmth to the space. “You’ve seen the built-in bench before, but I made a little nook out of it and added my prized possession, this tapestry,” notes Shea. “I admire tapestries and have saved them for many years,” she adds, but the typical price tag always kept her from buying her own. After finding the perfect one at an online auction house, Shea placed a bid and waited for the news. “It’s beautiful! It’s from the 1700s and the color is so rich.”

To complete the space, Shea grabbed McGee & Co.’s Clemence Chair in a beautiful pecan velvet and paired it with the Goodrich Side Table for a comfortable, but smaller scale, sitting area. “It used to just be a bench but I’ve made it an extra cozy nook now,” Shea says of the end result. Take a photo tour of Shea’s upstairs nook in the McGee Home Refresh below, and shop the McGee & Co. pieces that fill the space.
