McGee Home Refresh | Ivy's Room

See the dramatic difference wallpaper can make.

26 February –

During the refresh of her family’s home, Shea sought to add more layers to give her home a more traditional feel with loads of character. Going bold was the design direction in her daughter, Ivy’s room. See how wallpaper can completely change the direction of a space.

When Shea was designing Ivy’s bedroom for the first time, she wanted the wallpaper in the bathroom to stand out, but as she lived in the home, she realized she wanted to add one more layer and play with pattern on pattern. With the refresh, Shea decided to go with Willow Boughs in Linen by Morris & Co. The neutral tone was the perfect backdrop that tied all of the other colors in the space together. The wallpaper in the bathroom, Pimpernel Wallpaper by Morris & Co., is made by the same designer making it so that the overall feel of the two patterns complemented one another perfectly.

Styling the space, Shea kept most of the furniture the same but added a few new pieces to spruce it up. She added the Tess Ceramic Table Lamp on the nightstands. Above one nightstand she hung a collection of vintage floral artwork. On the other side she hung Neutral Swan, a larger artwork, which created an eclectic and balanced look.

As a designer of furniture, Shea always wants to try out the pieces she is designing before they make it to McGee & Co. In Ivy’s room she added the Prudence Chair in mohair velvet in a beautiful rose pink color which paired perfectly with the rest of the textiles in the space, alongside the Mackenna Dresser from McGee & Co. The dresser is an inky blue and provides contrast from the pinks and whites in the rest of the room. The Evangeline Hand-Knotted Wool Rug showcasing a color palette of blues and greens complements the dresser along with the green wallpaper in the bathroom which creates a nice flow.
