The Sunday 7: Welcome, 2022!

How we celebrated Christmas and the New Year, and a birthday!

02 January 2022 -

No. 1. Holiday recap

Anyone else feel like the season came and went soooo fast?! I was so grateful Syd and I could slow down a bit and take in all the moments to create new holiday memories with the girls. We’ve been skiing, cooking, playing games, sending out last minute Christmas cards, and hanging out with family. The addition of sweet little Margot this Christmas made the day especially magical (even if we were all up before the sun)! Family photo by Lauren Dautel Photo.

No. 2. Ivy’s birthday!

Our girl turned six! Ivy was the “baby” of our family for a number of years, but we have loved watching her grow into the role of big sis these past several monthsIt always feels like a bit of a marathon trying to plan and celebrate a birthday immediately after Christmas, but making her day feel special is always worth it!

No. 3. A year in review

It’s been so fun to look back on the year and see all we CREATED! From launching the second season of Dream Home Makeover and expanding our Target collection, to creating new catalogues for McGee & Co. and designing Margot’s nursery, there has been so much to make this past year fulfilling and inspiring. This Studio McGee highlight reel of 2021 is an especially fun trip down memory lane.

No. 4. A Christmas gift

I’ve been wanting a beautiful turntable for many, many years and this year my wish came true. It definitely tops my list of favorite gifts (maybe ever). The rich sound bellows through our home and makes you want to dance – it’s a gift I will cherish for many years to come.

No. 5. Design book

The break has also provided big chunks of time to sit down and focus on my design book that is in the works! Although this one will be a coffee table book with photos and insight into my design process, I learned from our first book that writing is all about getting into a flow. I’ve printed hundreds of our project photos and have been organizing them and narrowing while writing the copy— my work table and pin boards are filled with years of Studio McGee and it’s pretty cool to see!

No. 6. My favorite buys from 2021

We shared my top purchases from the previous year, and it’s been fun to see what helped carry me through multiple seasons of my personal life in 2021 (hello, pregnancy, filming and office moves!). No doubt about it, the MZ Wallace tote was my best buy.

No. 7. A new year full of inspiration

I love to reflect on the previous year as we head into the new, but I also really look forward to all the upcoming months have to offer, both personally and professionally. Design trends are a huge source of inspiration for upcoming projects, and we’ll be sharing our design predictions for 2022 this week!

Happy 2022!

XO – Shea
