The Studio McGee Office Deep Dive: Shea’s Office

Follow along as we give you a deeper look at Shea’s personal office space!

Walk into Shea’s office…

And you’ll immediately feel a sense of peace. The room is defined by a combination of both traditional and modern elements, with a few creative touches sprinkled in-between. It’s a special space that was incredibly fun to bring to life, and we’re excited to share even more details about it with you today!

We’d like to thank our friends at Lemco, Killowen Construction, and Park City Blinds for the parts they played in this space!

“I love the mix of modern and traditional and you’ll see that in all the selections throughout the space.”

Shea really wanted her office to feel traditional and feminine, yet modern and innovative at the same time. We achieved this look by starting with the foundation of a neutral wrapped wallpaper by Morris & Co. that has a beautifully subtle pattern. Paired with the base of a vintage rug, it’s a combination that sets the tone for the rest of the room.

The desk serves as a large workspace for laying out samples, designs, and to host meetings. We intentionally didn’t add a desktop computer here because Shea wanted the space to feel more like an open, collaborative area. (She uses her home studio to do her heads down, focused work!). The chairs are from McGee & Co., and we love how inviting and cozy they feel in the room.

All of the open spaces in the office have concrete floors, but the enclosed spaces have vinyl from Lemco Design. The tone of the flooring brings a neutral touch to each of the rooms, and it’s durable enough for all of the daily traffic in and out of the office spaces.

“It’s such a happy space. I get so excited when I have to come into the office for a meeting and get to spend some time in here.”

To make Shea’s office feel different than Syd’s, we went with painted, closed built-ins complete with brass accents and reeded glass (whereas Syd has open shelving!). It feels both feminine and modern and make for a great statement piece in the room. You’ll notice a shelf in the middle of the built-in that serves as a display for design books. Shea loves sharing the inspiration she gathers, and this shelf is the perfect way to do just so. It’s a small detail that we added into the design that goes a really long way.

We added in a few more pieces from McGee & Co., like the Lucille English Sofa and Beacon Sideboardboth which provide an elevated and sophisticated look. Because the wall that the couch sits on is floor-to-ceiling glass, we intentionally chose a sofa with an elegant shape. The terracotta layered drapes make the room feel homey — giving the room the final touch to make it a space that Shea can call her home away from home.
