Five Cabinets Styled Five Ways

Using different styling tactics, five McGee & Co. cabinets create vastly different looks.

Here at Studio McGee, we believe a room is not complete until it has been styled out—a vase of flowers on a coffee table, a stack of books or boxes on a shelf, or the stunning silhouette of vintage pottery. In terms of furniture, we feel the same way about a statement cabinet and that the look isn’t complete until it is filled with heirloom dinnerware or meaningful artwork—or both! When styling a large-scale cabinet there are countless decor options that allow you to create a unique and personal look. Here, we styled five McGee & Co. cabinets five different ways. When tackling a project like this on your own, remember that it too took us multiple iterations before getting the perfect combinations. Don’t be scared to play around, take a pause and look at it for a few days, and once you find something that works, it’s ok to change it up from time to time. A styled cabinet should act as your own personal art gallery.

No. 01 | Heath Oak Cabinet

The inspiration for the Heath Cabinet came from a custom built-in cabinet in a Studio McGee design project. Seeing the piece come to life in the project, Shea and the design team knew they wanted to create their own cabinet in a similar style for McGee & Co. We love the latch and round knob hardware details that make the cabinet feel elegant against the oak wood. The drawers allow for great storage options and the glass doors are perfect for displaying bowls, trays, and glasses.

No. 02 | Phillips Cabinet

The Phillips Cabinet is a statement piece for any room with sliding reeded glass doors and brass handles. You can style this cabinet with the doors open or closed. Cake stands, cutting boards, and hand-stamped bowls fill the space both functionally and beautifully. We love using this cabinet to store your pretty dishware but maybe not the most show-stopping pieces, as the reeded glass obscures the view making it more about the shape and silhouette than the material or texture.

No. 03 | Burnham Cabinet

Open and airy with an arched detail, the Burnham Cabinet is the perfect addition to any space with shelves for display and drawers for storage. Tablecloths, napkins, and other hosting essentials fit easily tucked away in the drawers. Given that there are no doors, this piece makes for a great everyday grab-n-go cabinet where accessibility is key.

No. 04 | Guthrie Cabinet

The Guthrie Cabinet has a beautifully curved frame built from powder-coated iron and glass with a white beadboard interior. One of our favorite elements of this piece is the white beadboard; it disappears into a white wall giving the illusion of it being backless. The glass doors allow for a full display of your favorite treasures. If you need some extra storage add a basket or two to hide the not-so-pretty items at the base of the cabinet.

No. 05 | Kensington Cabinet

Crafted from solid oak with a warm white oak finish, the Kensington Cabinet is the focal point of any room with its stately form. This cabinet works in all spaces from kitchens to nurseries with space to display and store the essentials. Top-to-bottom shelving and drawers make it a storage stalwart.
