We always get asked “what would you call your style.” Throughout our projects, we’ve done quite a range of modern spaces, traditional, to rustic and coastal — they have a common thread, we always mix style. In today's video, we're sharing a few tips on how to do it well.

We start with the traditional blank slate in our friend and fellow local designer, Lea Marietta’s personal home. From there, we juxtapose modern pieces with vintage. Blending styles makes a space feel custom to you.

Mixing Styles With Lea Marietta

"I would say my personal style is definitely traditional. I love a classic base to be able to build upon with some homier, more comfortable touches. When we were building this house, I wanted to make sure it had more character than you get sometimes with new construction homes. We did this through finish work, real hardwood floors with a warm stain, and other classic elements. That kind of created a nice base to build upon and mix other styles with." Lea Marietta

When you're mixing different styles together, it's not just about putting all of the traditional elements on one side and all the modern elements on the other. You have to blend them together and evenly balance them. In this look, each shelf represented a distinct moment. Together, they create harmony because we've used a color palette that is similar throughout." - Shea McGee
