Our Living by Design Showhouse Great Room

We got to design a room for a virtual showhouse!

08 March 2022 -

We’d never thought we’d design a virtual living space…

but when we got the opportunity to collaborate on The Living by Design Showhouse with National Media partner Martha Stewart Living and the production team at Embello, we couldn’t wait to get on board.

With the help of Brandon Architects and 3D visualization by YouSee, our team was able to create an entirely virtual great room design. Now that The Living by Design Showhouse has officially launched, we’re excited to share more about the process and inspiration behind the virtual space.

You can take the virtual tour of the entire home by visiting livingbydesignshowhouse.com, and can see a feature of all the designers in the April issue of Martha Stewart Living.

Thanks to the official brand sponsors, California ClosetsCarrier, Minted, and Monrovia, and the participating sponsors Calico and Currey & Co.

Inspiration

We drew inspiration for this virtual design from its serene surroundings in Bedford, NY, looking to the lakeside colors and textures to create our muted material palette. The artwork hung above the fireplace embodies how we wanted this space to feel — relaxed, lived-in, and character-driven. Pulling from the colors of the art piece and the virtual home’s location, we curated the mixed wood tones, vintage accents, and pillow combinations to reflect the homes’ environment.

The great room

Taking cues from the home’s peaceful setting, we focused on bringing the feeling of the outdoors in when creating this space. Centered around conversation, the layout of this design encourages gathering, with a fireplace and artwork piece replacing the usual TV focal point. Each element works together to inspire a feeling of warmth, from the natural stone carried from the exterior and wood built-ins to the boucle and travertine textures incorporated through the furniture and styling selections.

The pieces

We curated a few of our favorite furniture pieces to complement the muted palette of the space, mixing and layering materials from textural boucle to relaxed linen. Accent vintage-inspired pieces and decor bring the design to life and complete this elevated and comfortable lakeside look.
