Home on The Ranch: Entry Library & Mudroom

A Dream Home Makeover Project

25 January 2021 -

Today we’re excited to share the first part of one of our largest projects yet,

featured in our Netflix show Dream Home Makeover: The Home On The Ranch!

Built on a beautiful farmland property with breathtaking views of the mountains, this home is built to host friends and family for generations to come. Complete with timeless elements, live-able materials, and a regulation-sized basketball court, this project balances elegance with playful accents seamlessly.

Watch the virtual tour in our webisode below, and keep scrolling for more details and inspiration from our design process.

It takes a team to bring these projects to life, and we were lucky to work with the team at Hebon Studios and Everlast Custom Homes to fulfill our clients vision.

The Exterior

Time-honored elements and mixed materials introduce the story of the home from the moment you enter the property. Redbrick, white shiplap, and natural wood create a juxtaposition that feels both dimensional and streamlined all the way up to the stained wood doors that welcome you inside.

The Entryway

Walking into the entryway, you’re welcomed by a two-story-high vault with stained wood rafters and beautiful wall paneling detail flowing into the rest of the home. Complete with a vintage console, a classic Windsor chair, and a curved settee, the look feels elevated but approachable.

Paint details: Swiss Coffee at 75% strength by Benjamin Moore. Walls in Eggshell finish, trim in Satin finish, and ceiling in flat finish.

The library

Another pair of natural wood doors welcome you into the family library – a place for homework, music, and storage for our client’s many books. Among the herringbone floors and ceiling beams, we incorporated a large table, a rust-colored velvet sofa, and of course, a rolling ladder.

To complete the space, we painted our client’s grandmother’s piano in Grey Owl by Benjamin Moore to give it a new life and styled the built-ins with treasures old and new to pull it all together.

"I love that we incorporated task lights on the built-in to illuminate the items below and bring character to the space."

- Shea McGee

The Mudroom

Beyond the library, you enter the hallway that takes you to the mudroom. Surrounded by beautifully detailed cabinetry for locker storage,

We have a landing zone for dropping cellphones and keys and did this really cool custom bench with a leather cushion.

Ordering Tip: When working on a project for a client or your own home, order a single piece of hardware for the big impact areas so you (or your client) can get the full vision before investing in them!

Mudroom Flooring Details: Bleu Chinois Cobblestone from Exquisite Surfaces.
