Home on the Bay Project: The Primary Bedroom

A calming & cozy retreat

11 March 2022 -

In the primary bedroom of our Home on the Bay Project..

tall wooden beamed ceilings welcome you in and draw the eye up from the moment you walk in the door. A calming palette and a mix of textural layers bring this space to life and highlight the beautiful views surrounding this San Francisco Bay area home.

Designing a primary bedroom is all about creating a calming, peaceful space to retreat to at the end of a long day, and this space is a perfect representation of that idea. We were lucky to create this completely custom new build in collaboration with Sausalito Construction and Holscher Architecture, and we can’t wait to show you around!

"In designing this space, we wanted to stay true to the California aesthetic of neutrals, rustic textures, and an overall feeling of softness while incorporating a few surprises here and there. "

Set off by a custom-stained wood ceiling to match the white oak hardwood floors, this room instantly feels elevated and grand. In designing this space, we wanted to stay true to the California aesthetic of neutrals, rustic textures, and an overall feeling of softness while incorporating a few surprises here and there.

The architecture of this room divides the bedroom into two spaces — a sitting area and the bed area. We decided to hang the chandelier from the center of the space to draw the two together, and we love how its traditional curved design softens the beams on the ceiling.

"The modern chairs we chose for this space create a moment that feels special and unique while still blending with the palette."

- Shea McGee

A white linen bed offers a minimal jumping-off point for the rest of the furniture selections in this space, from the grey linen nightstands to the curved sette at the end of the bed. In the seating nook, the modern chairs we chose create a moment that feels special and unique while still blending with the palette.

Beautiful textural linen on the bedding lends a relaxed feeling to the entire room, while styled wooden built-ins add interest and dimension to the seating area and complete the look.
