Home on the Bay Project: The Dining Room

Details from the dining space

Adjacent to the great room space…

the dining area from our Home on The Bay Project draws your eye in with a mix of light and moody materials that set the tone. Wooden beams connect the open concept of the living and dining room, elevating the feeling of this space from the moment you walk in.

Located in the San Francisco Bay Area, we were lucky to design this completely custom new build in collaboration with Sausalito Construction and Holscher Architecture.

The dining room is all about blending form and function while making the most out of the few pieces you have to work with. We loved incorporating a mix of some of our favorite design elements through this space and can’t wait for our clients to spend time gathering here.

This dining room is all about creating a statement with the furniture. We started with these modern 20th-century inspired leather woven dining chairs that tie in with the mixed materials in the space. A wooden table grounds the look and pulls in the wood tone from the floors and ceiling, and barrel back slipcovered chairs relax the clean lines throughout the space.

In designing this space, we started by creating a focal point that catches the eye when you look through the dining table to this back wall. Because we only had an open-floor concept and only one wall to decorate, we wanted to make sure it felt like a separate moment from the adjacent living space. A dark wood console table grounds the back wall, while two parallel sconces add an element of character to the look.

One great takeaway from this home is how we incorporated touches of black to modernize the classic furniture selections. In the dining room, black artwork and styling accents over the console table add contrast and richness to the traditional silhouettes. We incorporated this pairing throughout the rest of the home, and we love how it feels bold but versatile enough to allow the design and architecture to shine.
