Let’s just say we were feeling blue.
Andrea & Bobby’s new basement theater room in Dream Home Makeover Season 3, Episode 3, shows the power of a moody palette for creating contrast and ambiance. Inspired to feel unlike any other space we’ve done, the result was so snug and serene, we could have kicked our feet up and stayed a while longer! Here’s a closer look at how this theater room came together.

Source List from our Partners:
Countertops: Caesarstone, Paint: Clare Paint, Fireplace: Dreamcast Design, Frames: Framebridge, Baseboards / T&G: Metrie, Studio McGee Decor Items: Target, Window Treatments: The Shade Store, Floors: Hallmark Floors, Wallpaper: Kelly Ventura, Cabinets: Marwood Design, Labor for floor installation: Mountain West Interiors, Sliding Patio Door: Pella, Hardware: Rejuvenation, TV & Speakers: Roku, Lightings: Visual Comfort & Co.

To start, we opened up the doorway to the theater as wide as we could, so the room feels welcoming despite its dusky tones. Getting rid of the existing closet gave us more square footage, taking the space from cramped to cozy.

Grayish and dark blue hues show up on each surface: the built-in entertainment center, molding, rug, drapes, and even the ceiling. This way, the big screen remains the star of the show!
“It feels counterintuitive to go dark in a basement, but if you have a small area that’s a little bit more isolated, it can create an intimate and cool vibe.”

Complementing these moody cool hues is a warm-toned, yet neutral, sofa. We couldn’t resist the velvet — a tactile and unique material that invites you to sit down and melt right in.

The wispy wallpaper ties it all together, balancing playfulness, modernity, and a bit of edge. A bold choice, but one that makes the room that much more magnetic.

Stay tuned each week for more up-close looks at the design process from this season of Dream Home Makeover!
