I am so excited to share this book with you, as it has been nearly ten years in the making. In 2024 we celebrate a decade of Studio McGee—it’s wild to think about the path that led me here. My love of design started at an early age when my dad would take my brother and I to wander around the Museum of Fine Arts in downtown Houston. At the time, I didn’t realize these trips would serve as my first lessons in design. The seeds of this company would be sewn many years later in a one-bedroom apartment in sunny southern California. While I was relentlessly crafting the first home Syd and I shared together with hand-me-down furniture and hand-painted cabinets, I rediscovered my passion for the art of home and set down a path to make my dreams of being a designer a reality. Flash forward to the current day where my team and I have completed enough design projects to fill an entire book with stunning imagery and many lessons learned along the way. No matter the form or scale of which I was practicing it, I’ve always loved design. From decorating our first apartment, to leading a team through brand partnerships, exclusive product lines, a television show, and an ever-expanding roster of design projects crossing international borders—I have found that the principles of high-end design can be applied to help elevate homes across the spectrum. This book is a culmination of my never-ending quest to seek and create beauty in moments both large and small and share that vision with others. I hope you enjoy the journey of The Art of Home as much as I have enjoyed living it. xoxo Shea
