How to Decorate Above Your Bed

Our favorite ways to fill that blank space

If your bedroom is feeling bare and empty, you’re not alone. In fact, we get the question “How should I decorate the area above my bed?” more than you would think.

That above the bed spot is a tricky place to decorate because usually there is quite a bit of blank space to fill. Although not all beds need something hung above them, above-the-bed decor can be the perfect way to add more style to your bedroom and pull everything together.

Here are five simple ways to decorate the area above your bed:

No. 1: Large artwork

Artwork is a good idea in almost any open space, and above the bed is no exception. If you have the space, consider a large square statement piece or a long, horizontal piece to make an impact and create a focal point.

No. 2: Small artwork

While it may seem counterintuitive to hang a small artwork piece above a bed, sometimes adding an unexpected element of scale can add just the right amount of interest to a space.

No. 3: Mirrors

Mirrors have a way of bringing light into a space while opening it up and making it feel larger. They also anchor the space when centered above the bed, making everything feel balanced. We love using mirrors above the bed for a unique and refreshing look!

No. 4: Paired artwork

We like incorporating two vertical pieces side by side if we have more height or width than usual above the bed. Hanging a pair of same-sized artwork has the same effect as a larger piece while creating additional visual dimension.

Styling Tip: When hanging two pieces next to each other, we recommend spacing them only a few inches apart, so they don’t feel disconnected.
