Two-Day Transformation: Coastal + Traditional Living Room

A coastal, traditional living room with function and flow in mind!

If you watched the webisode, you’ll know this space was all about flow and function. We also wanted to stay true to their love of Huntington Beach and the traditional bones of the move-in ready home. Two-day transformations are so fun because the results are a complete surprise to our client!

The furniture layout wasn’t feeling comfortable for our clients family. Considering 99% of their time spent in the living and dining room, this was a problem. They’re a family of five that loves to host! Their style is modern and traditional, and they appreciated our signature style of mixing materials.

A sectional honors their request for comfort. This also makes it easy for everyone to watch tv! The sectional is finished in crypton because it’s a durable option. Always a go-to for family spaces! We used a round coffee table with a coastal vibe so there’d be more walking space.

Yes, we’re still talking comfort! So we went with a soft, neutral rug. The leather and metal chairs have an awesome recline and padded seats, making them so cozy. More open wall space was left behind them, and we decided to go with four large pieces instead of a gallery wall, or one big piece.

The home has subtle coastal elements, but it’s not beachy! So we layered rust, and blue in with the pillows. The black lamp in the corner makes a really cool statement, and ties in with the other dark accents in the space. A hint of funkiness is always fun in a traditional space!

  1. Normally I would NEVER question Shea McGee…but I’m just curious why you would go with a flush mount in this space(?). I’m thinking maybe you didn’t want to take away from the gorgeous floor lamp(?).
Drinking this beautiful room in but wanting to learn at the same time!

    1. The ceilings weren’t tall enough to do something much bigger than a flush mount! They had a flush mount in there before so we just replaced it with a better looking one!

  2. I would love to know the pillow sources for this sectional! I definitely see some McGee & Co, but where are the others from? So beautiful.
