A highly requested post! Shea’s skincare routine + favorites.
We’ve gotten so many requests for my skincare routine! You guys, my routine is extensive to say the least. Ha! Keep in mind, everyone has different skin so this may not work for all.
This might be TMI, but here goes... I found out I had Hypothyroid and PCOS when I was 16. This has led to many tears shed over navigating my health. I've struggled with hormonal acne for years, so I always feel like a fraud when people ask me about my skincare routine. That being said, I find that people who have struggled with their skin tend to be the most diligent and well informed because we've tried everything!
For me, it starts with food: My skin is best when I'm off all grains, dairy, refined sugars, and soy. It's intense, but makes a huge difference in not only my skin but how I feel!
I go to my esthetician (I love her so much) every few weeks for extractions and a chemical peel! She has really helped me develop my routine. The peels make such a difference in the texture of my skin.
Cleanser (I started using this recently and my skin has never felt so smooth after washing)
Ice Roller. This wakes you up in the morning and is the important part of my routine! I ice my face every morning and every night after cleansing and then I apply all of my products. I take an ice cube and rub it all over my face and hold it on any blemishes to reduce inflammation. It shrinks pores, exfoliates, helps you achieve a healthy glow and helps your products absorb into your skin better. Plus, it’s free! You can read about the benefits here.
Serum. Hydrates and smooths fine lines.
Vitamin C. The vitamin C booster every blogger and beauty editor raves about. I do too.
Sunscreen/Moisturizer. This sunscreen might be my favorite product of them all. It goes on smooth instead of chalky like many and it moisturizes without breaking me out.
I wash my face twice at night because I'm fanatical and want to make sure I get all the makeup off! First round I use a washcloth and the second I lather and rinse really well.
Repeat ice, serum, and vitamin C.
Retinol/Benzoyl Peroxide - This stuff is magic. It doesn’t dry me out and works really
Transformation Cream - Makes my skin glow! Not greasy, but moisturizes without breaking me out.
Eye Cream - Because smiling a lot gives me crow’s feet and I don’t plan to stop smiling.
Lip Mask (but most of the time I prefer good ol' Carmex)
Thanks for sharing Shea, very insightful. You have beautiful skin x
Thanks for reading, Stacey! You’re too sweet.
So right there with you on the Carmex front. I think we might be the only ones, but nothing compares to it!!!
Right? It’s such a classic!
I would love to know more about your diet. What are your daily meals like with no grains or dairy? I’ve struggled with infertility and acne and always felt they were worsened by foods I could be eating…
Hi! I’m no doctor, but diet is definitely worth taking a look at! I eat a lot of veggies, fruits, meats, veggies, and healthy fats. Try reading the Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson!
Your skin looks so beautiful I would have never thought that you had any issues. Thanks for being so honest and transparent about your skincare!
You’re sweet, Andrea!! Thanks for taking the time to read and comment!
Thanks for sharing!! We use a lot of the same things. I’m kind of confused about the vitamin c. Do you mix it into the ageless serum?
Hi Holly! Yes!
Thank you for sharing! I would never have had any idea that you struggle with your skin – It always looks perfect to me! I also struggle with hypothyroidism and hormonal acne…. I’m curious if you take any prescription medications (no need to share which, but just curious if your derm recommends them)? I do and they aren’t working. So frustrating! I’m so glad you have found a regimen that works for you!!
Hi,I was wondering (pardon me if this is too personal), but did you struggle with having children? I have PCOS and am finding myself in this boat..I’m looking for some light..if you could share that part, I think many people could potentially benefit…thanksG
Thank you for taking the time to do this comprehensive post! I am so glad that you have found an esthetician and products that work for you and garner real results. You have such beautiful, glowing skin! I am pinning this post and now following your esthetician. I eagerly look forward to your makeup routine post ? #shameless #seewhatididthere #prettyplease
Haha! You’re too sweet Breanna! Thanks for taking the time to comment, and we’ll work on that makeup routine! 😉
Hiya! What kind of chemical peel do you do- brand/ regimen/ frequency? I just did my first peel recently with great results. It was pretty intense and my face peeled for a few days in large strips. Just curious if there is a less intense one that I can maybe look into between the aggressive peel.
Hi! Sorry for the late response. I do a chemical peel made for me by my skin girl!! I am not the master of skincare, but it can be intense!!
I see image has a new version of the serum. Which do you use??
So great! I need a basket I can add to my birthday wishlist #solvinghubbychallenges ???. And then I’m curious what cosmetic bag(s) you carry when you travel… love your style!
I was wondering what ice rollers look like. But apparently you can just use ice cube to do the same thing. Still, what an interesting skincare routine!
True! But the roller makes it much easier + it’s bigger! There’s a picture of it in in our graphic or click on this link! http://bit.ly/2Cea3Lp
I struggle with hypothyroidism and PCOS. Could you share more about your diet (how you switched/transitioned), effects of the dietC and some of your favorite meals??
Thanks for sharing. Though I don’t do fancy skin care stuff and whatnot, I always make sure to keep my skin clear and fresh.
