McGee Home: Mudroom Process

The inspiration and process behind our mudroom!

McGee Home Mudroom Inspiration

We’ve always had a love for mudrooms at our studio, and designing our very own from start to finish has been a dream! Ever since moving to Utah, we’ve had a need for a space fit for trekking in boots covered with snow, storing hats and gloves, and hanging our coats to dry. Deep, heavy winters have finally met their match!

When gathering inspiration for this space, we focused on contrasting elements in our kitchen to create depth and added interest. Diverging from the light and bright details in our kitchen, we went with dark cabinets and countertops by Killowen Construction, creating a moody yet still airy feeling. Complete with limestone floors in a herringbone pattern by Avente Tile, an industrial style faucet from Kohler, classic white shiplap by Metrie, and a cute dutch door, the result was even better than I imagined!

  1. Love it. Can I just have a carbon copy of your home, please? You are checking off all of my design wishlist items (and then some that I didn’t realize I needed in my life…). Thanks for sharing!

  2. Thank you for being super generous with your details. Colors, etc. what kindness you show your fans and followers when we can know the paint, the source of materials etc. we so appreciate your inspiring gift!

Can I ask, did you paint the ceilings Swiss Coffee 75 percent or something else? And would you mind sharing the trim color to the Swiss Coffee walls? I can’t wait to re do my home and love everything you’ve done!! Much love and happiness to your family.

  3. What a gorgeous mudroom! I specially love the limestone floors. Are they from Avente Tile or Bedrosian? Thank you so much in advance ?

    1. I’ve reached out to Avente Tile for the last month and can not get a hold of anyone regarding these tiles 🙁

  4. Utterly gorgeous, like everything Team McGee touches. I wonder whether the narrow edges of the door (at the sides) are the black of the exterior side or the white of the interior side? We’re having that dilemma in our home in New Zealand.

  5. Can you share source for the floor tile? there is nothing on avente tile website.. you also mentioned a thin cement tile on your youtube video so was hoping for some more detail.. this is exactly the type of floor I have been looking for.. also do you sell the lighting in this space?
    love the space 🙂
