The triannual Round Top Antiques Fair is the mecca of vintage shopping in America. Every year, thousands ascend on the tiny town of Round Top, Texas, to browse row-after-row, shop-after-shop of antiques from around the world. It’s more than just a flea market, it’s a gathering of like-minded individuals all in search of design inspiration from bygone days. For many, the Round Top, Texas antiques show is where a love of design is nurtured, or even where the seed is planted in the first place. Shea and our design team at Studio McGee head south whenever their schedules allow, and when they do, there are a few Round Top stops they always try to make time for. Here, a few on the lineup and what to wear for an all-day shop-athon under the Texas sun. Comfy shoes and the ability to envision the possibilities are a must.
“To the designer, Round Top is a rite of passage, a bi-annual trip down south to dream about all the ways you could use the year’s vintage haul. It’s exciting seeing the once-empty fields transform into row after row of vendors hawking the most beautiful items. And having grown up in Texas, it’s fun to be back where I spent my formative years, seeing the cowboy boots and the craftsmanship of the centuries-old barns and beams. Round Top is, for me, a source of endless inspiration on many fronts."
