Austin Texas Project: Kids’ Rooms

Check out the fun kids' spaces in our Austin, Texas Project!!

Yesterday we showed you the Living Room, Master Bedroom, and Guest Room of our Austin Texas Project. Today we're showing you the kids' spaces!

We’re not joking when we say this family has more books than anyone! The kids were even reading during the install! We loved the challenge of providing storage for all the books and using them as accessories as we styled. It also provides a wonderful opportunity to create special nooks and reading areas for the family.

Our client wanted her twin’s room to be fun, but transitional. We decided to use furniture that would last while as the boys grow, and use playful artwork and textiles.

This room required a lot of storage! The shelving unit on the left of the bed was placed as an extra place to store books and toys instead of another nightstand. The client had th vintage California flag that brought so much character and the perfect amount of color for this space.

The number one need in the playroom was a daybed. We filled it with eclectic throw pillows for an element of fun and comfort. The kids can rearrange the pillows as they lounge, read, rest, and play. Speaking of playing, the kids love legos and toys. The baskets are handy for keeping the toys while also bringing in some natural texture.

  1. Love the large bookshelf with the huge baskets. Can you share where the bookshelf is from and also the mid century mod dresser that is wood, white and black legs? Love it!

  2. Could you let me know where the bookshelf with all the baskets is from? Ordering the baskets now! Love the look!

  3. Dear McGee,

There is this picture of a white chaire underneath the big art work of Ancient Alphabets…
Where can I find that white chair?
    THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

  4. So much fun! Can you please tell me where you got the Ancient Alphabets print? Thanks so much!

  5. That ancient texts poster is amaaaaazing! Please sell it on your site or share its source! Heart eyes for the whole project!!!

  6. Would also love, love, love to find that ancient alphabets poster for my oldest son. Please share source! Thank you!!
And of course, obsessed with everything you do πŸ™‚

  7. Love all these rooms! Relaxed but gorgeous eye candy in every spot! Where is that ancient alphabet poster from? I love every detail of these rooms!

  8. Love it so much! I’m from Austin too so it’s fun to see a modern approach to a Texas home. Thanks for always sharing so many sources. It is very generous of you.

  9. The play room…

Where did you source the wooden storage unit next to your Joanna bookcase? Also, where is the black and white window shade from? LOVE that!

  10. Also! Will the Nancy pillow be coming back into stock?!!…I am guessing the shade you had made from this same fabric…

  11. I really love these rooms but am I the only mom in the blogosphere that can’t imagine spending $500 + on pillows for my kids? Isn’t anyone worried about markers, blood, snot, rips, etc? Not judging… really. But my kids are so darn hard on everything that I just couldn’t justify it! (Again, love the rooms!)

    1. They’re a little different because we didn’t have the baskets in stock when we did the shoot. But very similar!

  12. You guys always do such beautiful work! Would love to know where the pillow is from on the white chair. I have been searching a long time for something like that πŸ™‚

  13. I am a mom of a boy who never sits still and I am super nit-picky when it comes to designing kids’ rooms. So many designs are ridiculously expensive and they just don’t take into consideration the functionality of a child’s room. However, the room with the shelf of large baskets that you have designed is a shining example of a well thought out room. Swap out the table and chairs for a train/lego table and there is really nothing you can nit-pick out of this room (aside from the pure white carpet). ANNNDDD…..everything can be duplicated for cheaper. Everything is utilitarian as well as pleasing to the eye. And, this room can grow up with a child. Well done! I am pretty impressed. I mean, I am no interior designer or blogger, but I am a mom who has to deal with a 5 year old boy’s room/mess daily, and this room is MOM APPROVED!

    1. This is the best comment ever, Amy! We’re so happy you think it’s functional and pleasing to the eye. Thanks for your stamp of approval! Xoxo

  14. Could you please tell me what kind of beds those are in the twins’ room and where can I find them? I have 3yo twin boys as well as an almost 2yo boy who will all three be sharing a room soon. These beds would be AWESOME!

  15. Hi – I’m currently in the process of updating both my playroom and my oldest sons bedroom into a big boy room and I’m just loving everything here for inspiration or honestly, straight up copying πŸ˜‰

Could you share where the bedside table in the twins room is from or what color it was painted? Love it for his bedroom.

  16. Hey there! I’m redoing my guest bedroom and I ADORE this rug! I’m having a hard time finding something I love as much – are you able to share the source?

    Thank you!
    Shayla

  18. Love these rooms!! Could you please tell me where the bluish grey dresser in between the twin beds that is featured in the first few pictures is from?

    Thank you!
