Today is the photo reveal for our Mid-Century Modern Project.
We stretched ourselves with a style that you don’t typically see from us and we love the result!

It’s not just the style that’s a little different than what we normally do – this project is a spec renovation. We worked with Northstar Builders in Salt Lake to stage the home and prepare to sell. Northstar purchased the home through the original owner’s daughter with the promise that they would renovate rather than tear down. We staged main rooms and kept with the mid-century look, but with our signature eclectic style.

The great room opens up to the kitchen, dining room, and entry. We used a really great low profile modern sectional and a round coffee table because it fits nicely within the opening of the sectional. This space has our signature layered look, but it’s paired down for a more masculine effect. The side table is a designer trade item.

We chose this wool rug for its soft, shaggy texture and geometric pattern. I love how it works with both modern and transitional spaces. The artwork was perfect for this space! The indigo color is beautiful and we love how two coordinating pieces hang together as one.

We aimed to make the space feel “midcentury modern” without trying too hard. I think too often people make a midcentury room look like it’s wearing a costume! Only peg legs and typical silhouettes make it feel more trendy than designed.

The subtle sheen and warm tones in the dining room rug make the modern look feel more cozy.

These gold lamps have a tall shade and deep gold finish that make a big statement – the perfect glamorous balance to the graphic artwork.

LOVE seeing y’all take this style on – fantastic job! It’s such a fresh take on mid-century. I agree with your sentiment that sometimes it can look like a home is putting on a mid-century costume, but this is anything BUT that. Another fantastic Studio McGee project in the books!
So glad you agree!! Thanks Chaney!!!
Love the indigos! They are so on trend but in a different way!!!
Also, love the square side table next to the sofa! Would you mind sharing the source?
Thanks Erin! We love the indigo too. It’s by Four Hands!

Fantastic job, as always. I’m so in love with this kitchen! No backsplash, am I right? Caught my attention and I think it’s brilliant!
Right!! Thanks Rachel 🙂
Love this style, especially mixed with mountain rustic which is what you also do so well. Would you mind sharing what the finish is for the floor? I’m between doing woca or no stain with bona traffic on top, and I love the natural look of this white oak. Thanks!
